Curriculum - History

'To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life unless it is woven into the lives of our ancestors by the records of history."   Marcus Tullius Cicero.

It is intended that the syllabus at The Hall will allow scope for attractive and purposeful teaching of History, so that a real interest in the work will be engendered in the pupils. By following the syllabus they should be well prepared to continue their study of the subject at their senior schools.

History is a subject that has at times been dogged by a reputation that it is of little use to the working world. So often parents say to their children-
''Why on earth do you want to study History?"
People who say this fail to realise what History is about.

History has long since stopped being a subject of mere dates, after all dates are just like coat hangers it is what hangs from them that is important. History is a vibrant discipline, which studies human beings and their behaviour. Human nature rarely changes and yet the historical perspective can be important.
